How to Keep Flowers Looking as Good as the Day You Got Them

How do I keep my flowers looking just as good as the day I got them? This is a huge question that is always asked by customers, and the answer to this question is: to keep your flowers lasting for up to two to three weeks after they leave the florist and when you receive them into your home is to always, always keep the water fresh and clean.

The key point is to prevent bacteria from growing in your water. It's bacteria that actually kills your flowers and that shortens their lifespan. It doesn’t matter if your container is a vase or an oasis, you should always keep clean water in there. I would suggest changing it every two or three days and give your flowers a trim off with a good sharp pair of scissors. That will also help them to be able to receive the water through the stem.

After five or six days, you'll notice that the ends of the stems will go kind of mushy or turn brown, especially roses. You need to trim those every three days. If you trim a rose every three days and give it fresh water so the bacteria does not grow, you can keep them looking fabulous for up to three weeks! You just keep trimming the stem off.

Another little tip is to keep your floral arrangement out of the sunshine. Wherever you put it in your home, don't put it in a window or where it's going to be getting hot. They have already fully grown, they've blossomed, so now you're just wanting to preserve them in your home so they don't need sunshine anymore.

It’s a good idea to keep your floral arrangement in a cool area in the summertime. You may notice in the winter and fall months that your flowers last longer, which is because they’re not in direct sunlight for as long a period of time.

By ensuring your floral arrangements have fresh water and stay out of direct sunlight, you’ll get a much longer life expectancy from your flowers.
